2008 DLL News

This web page contains "older" DLL news for 2008. Most if not all of these items were previously posted on the DLL "What's New" home page.

Picture Day Scheduled for Sat, Apr 19

DLL Picture Day is scheduled for Sat, Apr 19 at Mill Run Elementary School. Team pictures will be taken indoors rain or shine, and players will have the opportunity to have individual photos taken as well.

Contact your team's manager or your team's DLL Picture Day Coordinator for your team's reporting time, and for more information. Players should report to Mill Run Elementary School at your team's designated reporting time in full uniform and sneakers. No bats or gloves are needed for the pictures.

Manager's or their designated DLL Picture Day Coordinators are asked to pickup their Picture Day packets/forms for their entire team at the Crittenden concession stand Monday through Friday this week whenever the concession stand is open. The concession stand is typically open on weekdays from 5:30pm until the end of the last game. Individuals should NOT visit Crittenden looking for picture forms unless they are picking up the Picture Day package for the entire team.

Field Status Web Page

An intermittant problem with the Field Status webpage has been reported. If you are unable to access the field status web page, call the DLL Field Status phone number (703-729-2222.)

Umpire Certification Training - Sat, Mar 29 at Parsells Field

DLL's Umpire Certification Training will be held on Saturday March 29 from 10am - 1pm at Parsells Field.

This clinic will touch upon the harder rules of Interference Calls, Infield Fly Rules, Positioning and Mechanics. On-field trainers will be available to answer any questions. Other topics that will be covered include on-field demonstrations calling balls/strikes; making calls at the bases, where to be and how to make the signals. Umpires who attend this clinic will be considered certified in DLL for the 2008 Spring and Fall seasons.

For the 2008 Spring season, you must be certified in order to be scheduled to cover Majors and AAA games. Non-certified umpires may be used for AA and single A. In addition, certified umpires that are eligible for payment receive $10 more per game than non-certified umpires. Finally, certified umpires are eligible to umpire DLL post-season tournaments and may be offered the opportunity to umpire District 16 All Star games.

Thu, February 21 from 7:00-8:30pm at the Woods Recreation Center, 44020 Louisa Drive, Ashburn, VA
Wed, February 27 from 7:00-8:30pm at the Woods Recreation Center, 44020 Louisa Drive, Ashburn, VA

This course will be a terrific primer for anyone that is planning to take the full certification course.

Tryout Information and the Complete Tryout Schedule
