1. Who is eligible to play in DLL?
Dulles Little League offers baseball programs from T-ball through Little League Majors for boys and girls. There are two main criteria to meet to be eligible to play in Dulles Little
League:
Age: DLL is open to players with a
Playing Age of 5 to 12 inclusive. To determine a player's Playing
Age, calculate their age on April 30, 2008, or refer to the 2008 Playing Age chart.
Residency: DLL is open to players living
within DLL's boundaries. Little League
allows some exceptions to the residency requirements which are handled
on a case-by-case basis. For instance, a player who played in DLL
for the last two years but who has moved outside the league boundaries
may possibly be able to receive a waiver to continue to play in DLL.
Little League sets the criteria for how a player is considered a resident
of our boundaries; in general, if either of the player's parents OR
a player's court-appointed legal guardian resides within the boundaries. For DLL eligibility or boundary questions, contact DLL Board member Jeff Kraus.
The Challenger division has different eligibility requirements. Contact Kenny Akers for more information about DLL's Challenger program.

2. What are the fees for the 2008 Spring DLL season?
The registration fees for the 2008 Spring DLL season are outlined on the DLL Registration web page.
There is NO fee for DLL Challenger participants.
DLL has a policy (Financial Scholarships) to waive the fee for participants who would be unable to play otherwise. (Contact the DLL President for details).
DLL also offers a $100 volunteer opt-out fee for those unable to volunteer during the season.
Each player will receive to keep a jersey and a hat from the league. The league will also provide the following equipment for use at games and practices: batting helmets, catcher's gear, bats (Rookie division and lower), baseballs, and bases. Players need to provide their own white baseball pants, shoes, and protective cups.

3. Why does DLL solicit volunteers?
Dulles Little League is a volunteer organization. The league asks each family to make a volunteer commitment in one or more areas. This volunteer activity has the potential for being extremely rewarding. The league also offers a $100 opt-out fee per family in lieu of volunteering. See the Volunteer Descriptions for more information.

4. When will the 2008 Spring season start and end, and how many games are played by each team?
The timeline for the 2008 Spring season is outlined on the DLL Registration web page.
It is expected that the regular season will run from early-April through the end of May or early June. For T-Ball, Instructional Rookie and Rookie teams, the season will end at the end of the "regular" season since there are no playoffs for these divisions.
The season will be preceded by a period of team practices and practice games. Teams will generally be scheduled for two games per week -- a Saturday daytime and a weeknight game. In general the game days and times for each age division will be the same each week. During certain weeks of the year or in order to make up rained-out games, teams may play a game during their regular practice time.
For T-Ball and Instructional Rookie teams, the regular season is slightly different. There is generally no practice during the week, just a game on Saturday and a game during the week. Due to field availability, the game during the week may be on different days on different weeks.
Games will not be scheduled during the Loudoun County Spring Break period or Memorial Day weekend. In addition to the preseason practices, teams above Instructional Rookie may be scheduled to practice throughout the season. For Single A through Majors, the season ends with a single-elimination playoff involving all the teams.
The exact number of games played by each team will be determined based on total registration and field availability. Teams in the T-Ball, Instructional Rookie, Single A, and AA divisions will play approximately 13 games. AAA teams will play approximately 14 games, and Majors teams will play approximately 15 games.

6. Why do new players need to submit a copy of their birth certificate?
The league needs a copy on file of birth certificates for all players. This is required by Little League in order to document the eligibility of our players. We are asking players new to the league to supply a copy of their birth certificate with their registration. For American birth certificates, the copy needs to include a copy of the official raised seal. Photocopies are OK -- we do not require official copies. If registering online, please mail a copy of the birth certificate to the address given on the bottom of this page. Contact a DLL Player Agent with any birth certificate questions.

9. How does DLL assign players to divisions and teams?
All players are assigned to an appropriate division by the DLL Player Agents based on:
- Participant's Playing Age (age as of April 30, 2008)
- Previous Little League experience (number of seasons played and previous divisions)
- Coach/Manager evaluations from any previous season
- Number of players/teams at each level that can be accommodated by available fields
- Overall benefit to league (e.g., competitive balance, scheduling, etc)
- Tryout results
- Draft results (for the Single A, AA, AAA and Majors divisions; players wishing to play at the next highest division based on their Playing Age who are not drafted will play at the division for their age group)
- Important Note: The division of play in a Fall season has NO bearing on the division of play for a subsequent season. This factor is always highlighted on the Registration web page for a Fall season, but often forgotten by the following Spring.

11. Can my Playing Age 5, 6 or 7 year old move-up from T-Ball to the Instructional Rookie (IR), Rookie or Single A Division?
All Playing Age 5-year-olds will be placed in T-Ball per Little League rules. Playing Age 6-year-olds who have no prior baseball experience will also be placed in our T-Ball division.
Playing Age 5's who have played at least one Spring season of T
-ball AND who have a birthday between May 1 and July 31
will be eligible for the IR division.
Playing Age 6-year-olds who have played one season of T-ball will be placed in the Instructional Rookie division.
Playing Age 7-year-olds with no prior experience will also be placed in the Instructional Rookie division. Most other Playing Age 7-year-olds will be placed in the Rookie division.
Playing Age 7-year-olds as of April 30, 2008 who have a birthday between May 1 and July 31 AND are interested in trying out for the Single A division need to attend a tryout. If these Playing Age 7's are not drafted into Single A, they will be assigned to a team in the Rookie division.

14. Does DLL field any All-Star teams for participation in Little League sanctioned tournaments?
At the end of the regular season, DLL will field several All-Star teams for participation in Little League-sanctioned tournaments. The tournament teams are selected from among the players who participated in the regular season. DLL will have two teams in the tournament for 11- and 12-year olds; this tournament culminates in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA for the top 16 teams from around the world. DLL also fields two teams in a tournament for 9- and 10-year olds; this tournament results in the crowning of a Virginia 9-10 Champion. A Little League-sponsored tournament for 11-year-olds is also expected to be held; this tournament will also result in determining a state champion for Virginia.

16. I signed up as a Manager Applicant for the 2008 Spring season. How many coaches/players can I select if I'm chosen as a Manager?
Selected managers in the Single A, AA, AAA division can select ONE assistant coach. Once the selected assistant coach has consented to be assigned to that manager's team, the player(s) of the assistant coach will automatically be assigned to the same team as the player of the manager. The remainder of the team is filled via a preseason draft. Beyond the selection of one assistant coach, no other player/coach requests will be considered or honored. Single A, AA, AAA, and Majors teams are rebuilt each Spring season via a draft.
Selected managers in the T-Ball, Instructional Rookie and Rookie divisions can also select ONE assistant coach whose player will automatically be assigned to the same team.

17. What is DLL's refund policy?
In an effort to help stabilize team rosters, control disruptions caused by player drops and withdrawals, and to account for payment processing fees, DLL has adopted the following refund policy. This refund policy applies regardless of the reason for the player drop or withdrawal, and includes players who register with DLL but are later found to be ineligible due to Playing Age and/or because they reside outside of our boundaries.
-
Drop or withdraw on or before the first day of tryouts (Jan 19, 2008): refund is amount paid minus $25 processing fee per player
-
Drop or withdraw after the first day of tryouts but before the Majors draft date (Feb 12, 2008): $50 refund per player will be issued.
-
Drop or withdraw on or after the Majors draft date (Feb 12, 2008): no refund.
Refund requests must be sent to the DLL Registration Coordinator (email). All refund requests for the 2008 Spring season will be processed in mid-February 2008 (no exceptions).

18. What is DLL's waitlist policy?
DLL Player Agents will determine which players, if any, we are able to accept from our waitlist. Players are not necessarily accepted from the waitlist on a "first come, first served" basis. A player will only be placed in a division appropriate for his skill level, which the Player Agents determine according to age, playing experience, previous divisions played, past coach evaluations, and tryout results. When choosing between waitlist candidates with similar qualifications, number of seasons played with DLL is also considered. In short, we strive to give players the opportunity of a positive playing experience, while minding the interests of the affected team(s) and the league overall.
