Volunteer Descriptions

Manager Applicant

Duties: Responsible for the overall coaching, operation, welfare and administration of a team and the team's responsibilities (umpiring, fundraising, field maintenance) throughout the season. Manager's spouse is not required to provide league service in addition to manager.

Umpire Applicant

Duties: Volunteer umpires will be responsible for umpiring DLL regular season games at the Single A level and above. Certification is required in order to umpire games at the AAA and Majors level. For 2007:

All volunteer umpires will receive an umpire shirt and cap.
All volunteer umpires will receive the Little League Baseball (LLB) 2008 rule book and have the opportunity to attend several clinics being held by DLL and District 16.
Umpire gear (mask, leg guards, chest protector, ball/strike counter, plate brush) will be provided by DLL

Field Maintenance

Duties: Assist the Fields Manager in preparing and caring for the playing fields and facilities. Participate in Field Day prior to the season to do various project on fields the DLL uses and maintains.

Sponsor

Contributes financial amount to sponsor one or more DLL teams. The Sponsor name is publicized on the DLL website, team uniform, team picture and plaque, Opening Day Ceremony, and other means depending on sponsor level. Sponsor's spouse is not required to provide league service.

A volunteer in this category will be assigned a duty by their child's team manager. This could include duties such as:

Assistant Coach
Field Prep before games
Opening Day Parade volunteer (Spring seasons only)
Fundraising (Discount Card) coordinator (Spring seasons only)
Team party coordinator
Nationals team ticket coordinator (Spring seasons only)

Duties can be tailored to the volunteer's capabilities and time constraints. Some of these duties can be performed at the games themselves; others can be done during spare time or at home. You may think that you don't have time to volunteer but since you'll likely be at your child's game anyway, you could take on a job that can be done at the games.

Note that the volunteer category "Assistant Coach" has been eliminated and has been rolled into this new category. The team manager will select the assistant coach(es) from among the team parents.
