1. Who is eligible to play in DSLL?
Dulles Little League offers baseball programs from T-ball through Little League Majors for boys and girls. There are two main criteria to meet to be eligible to play in Dulles South Little League:
Age: DSLL is open to players with a Playing Age of 5 to 12 inclusive. To determine a player's Playing Age, calculate their age on April 30, 2006, or refer to this chart. In its inaugural season, DSLL expects to have four divisions (T-Ball, Rookie, Single A and AA) for players based on their age, experience and ability. (Players 13 to 19 on July 31 are eligible for the Eastern Loudoun Babe Ruth League). For the 2006 season only, a player born in May, June or July of 2001 may register for a t-ball team.
Residency: DSLL is open to players living within DSLL's boundaries. Little League allows some exceptions to the residency requirements which are handled on a case-by-case basis. Little League sets the criteria for how a player is considered a resident of our boundaries; in general, if either of the player's parents OR a player's court-appointed legal guardian resides within the boundaries.
For DSLL eligibility or boundary questions, contact the South Riding Board Representative.
2. What are the fees for the 2006 Spring DSLL season?
The registration fees for the 2006 Spring DSLL season are outlined on the DSLL Registration web page.
DSLL has a policy (Financial Scholarships) to waive the fee for participants who would be unable to play otherwise. (Contact the South Riding Board Representative for details).
DSLL also offers a $100 volunteer opt-out fee for those unable to volunteer during the season.
Each player will receive to keep a jersey and a hat from the league. The league will also provide the following equipment for use at games and practices: batting helmets, catcher's gear, bats, baseballs, and bases. Players need to provide their own white baseball pants, shoes, and protective cups.
3. Why does DSLL solicit volunteers?
Dulles South Little League is a volunteer organization. The league asks each family to make a volunteer commitment in one or more areas. This volunteer activity has the potential for being extremely rewarding. The league also offers a $100 opt-out fee per family in lieu of volunteering. See the Volunteer Descriptions for more information.
4. When will the 2006 Spring season start and end, and how many games are played by each team?
The schedule for the 2006 Spring season is outlined on the DSLL Registration web page.
It is expected that the regular season will run from early-April through just after public school ends. For the T-Ball and Rookie teams, the season will end at the end of the "regular" season since there are no playoffs for these divisions.
The season will be preceded by a period of team practices and practice games. Teams will generally be scheduled for two games per week -- a Saturday daytime and a weeknight game. In general the game days and times for each age division will be the same each week. During certain weeks of the year or in order to make up rained-out games, teams may play a game during their regular practice time.
For T-Ball teams, the regular season is slightly different. There is generally no practice during the week, just a game on Saturday and a game during the week. Due to field availability, the game during the week may be on different days on different weeks.
Games will not be scheduled during the Loudoun County Spring Break period or Memorial Day weekend. In addition to the preseason practices, Rookie teams and above may be scheduled to practice throughout the season. For Single A and AA teams, the season ends with a single-elimination playoff involving all the teams.
The exact number of games played by each team will be determined based on total registration and field availability.
5. How do I register for the 2006 Spring DSLL season?
Visit the DSLL Registration web page.
6. Why do new players need to submit a copy of their birth certificate?
The league needs a copy on file of birth certificates for all players. This is required by Little League in order to document the eligibility of our players. We are asking players new to the league to supply a copy of their birth certificate with their registration. For American birth certificates, the copy needs to include a copy of the official raised seal. Photocopies are OK -- we do not require official copies. If registering online, please mail a copy of the birth certificate to the address given on the bottom of this page. Contact a DLL/DSLL Player Agent with any birth certificate questions.
7. What does "Playing Age" mean?
"Playing Age" for the 2006 Spring Season is based on a player’s age as of April 30, 2006. To determine a player's Playing Age, calculate their age on April 30, 2006, or refer to this chart.
8. What is the DSLL league structure (divisions by age groups) for the 2006 Spring season?
View our 2006 Spring DSLL League Structure.
9. How will DSLL assign players to divisions and teams?
All DSLL players will assigned to an appropriate division and team by the DLL/DSLL Player Agents based on:
Top of Page
- Participant's Playing Age (age as of April 30, 2006)
- Previous Little League experience (number of seasons played and previous divisions)
- Coach/Manager evaluations from any previous season
- Number of players/teams at each level that can be accommodated by available fields
- Overall benefit to league (e.g., competitive balance, scheduling, etc)
- Tryout results
10. Who needs to tryout for the 2006 Spring DSLL season?
Everyone who meets the age and residency requirements who wants to play Little League can play. Tryouts are used as part of the team assignment process in order to establish balanced teams and to place players in divisions.

11. When and where are the tryouts for the 2006 Spring season?
Wed, Jan 11: The primary tryout dates for the 2006 Spring season are January 21 and January 28 from 9am - 5pm . The final tryout dates will be on January 31 and February 2 from 6pm - 8pm. Players will be assigned a specific time based on the first letter of their last name. Tryout sessions will be used to help place players on teams, and to help maintain competitive balance.
This year all tryouts will be held indoors at Diamond Sports Training. Diamond Sports Training is located at 45685 Oakbrook Court, Suite 110, Sterling, VA, 20166. Click here for driving directions. Players should wear tennis shoes and bring their glove. They may also bring their own bat.
Players who are required to try out have will be assigned a time and a date based on their age and their last name. Due to the substantial logistical demands of conducting the tryouts, the league asks that players make every effort to attend their assigned tryout session. However, if due to unavoidable circumstances it is not possible for a player to attend his or her assigned session, players may attend another session for players of the same age.
Please contact a DLL/DSLL Player Agent with any tryout-related questions:

AA & A: Jeff Kraus (email)
Rookie & T-Ball: Adam Stewart (email)
12. Can my Playing Age 5 or 6 year old move-up from T-Ball to the Rookie division?
Most Playing Age six-year-olds will be placed in T-Ball. There may be a limited number of spots in Rookie / Coach Pitch for six year olds. A Playing Age 6 player may qualify for one of these spots if all of these conditions are met:
- Participant's Playing Age as of April 30, 2006
- Having the player's parent/guardian request that the player be placed in the Rookie / Coach pitch division
- Having a prior year's experience (a Spring season) in T-Ball
- Having approval from a Player Agent
A parent may indicate a preference for their Playing Age 6 player to be assigned to Rookie by entering a comment on the registration form.
Note that all Playing Age 5-year-olds will be placed in T-Ball per Little League rules.
13. How do I contact a DSLL Board member with a question or comment?
DSLL is in the planning process for organizing and electing a DSLL Board of Directors. DLL Board members will be assisting DSLL during this transition process. In particular, DLL Player Agents will be helping DSLL with player-to-team/division assignments for the 2006 Spring DSLL season.
For more information, or to volunteer to help, please contact the South Riding Board Representative.
14. My player will be eligible for the AAA or Majors draft. Given that DSLL will not have a AAA or Majors division for the 2006 Spring season, which league should I register with? What happens if my player is not drafted onto a AAA or Majors team?
DSLL will not have AAA or Majors divisions for the 2006 Spring season. If you expect that your player will be drafted onto a AAA or Majors team, you should register them for DLL, regardless of where you live.
Furthermore, if you are within DSLL boundaries and your player is not drafted onto a AAA or Majors team, a Player Agent will move your registration to DSLL, and your player will be assigned to a DSLL AA team.
15. I now reside within the DSLL boundaries, but I have more than one player playing baseball in the Spring. One player will be playing in DLL's AAA or Major's division... which league will his sibling(s) play in?
If a family has a South Riding eligible player assigned to a DLL team in the AAA or Majors division, his younger siblings are eligible to play in either DSLL or DLL. If the younger sibling chooses to stay in DLL, they must file a special waiver to request to stay in DLL. Once filed, the waiver is good for the "little league life" of the younger player(s), as long as they do not miss or skip a Spring DLL season.
If you have additional questions about this issue or about the special waivers process, please contact the DLL Vice President.
16. I now reside within the DSLL boundaries, but I want to file a waiver allowing my player(s) to keep playing in DLL. What do I need to know?
Little League Regulation II(d) reads as-follows:
The Board of Directors of the Local League, with the approval of the player involved, reserves the right to continue as a player, any individual (1) whose residence changes from within the boundary to outside the league's boundary or (2) who lives outside the league's boundaries because of a revision of such boundaries even if the child then resides in the territory of another league. Current Major League, Minor League or Tee Ball players or any sibling whose brother or sister meet the criteria under II (d) at one time may be retained.
Any player meeting (1) or (2) above may be retained for the remainder of his/her career, including Little League, Senior and Big League competition. NOTE: A player who qualifies under this regulation and elects not to participate for a playing season is not eligible to be retained for the subsequent season. If you are within the DSLL boundaries and wish to submit a Regulation II(d) waiver to stay in DLL, please click here. If you have additional questions about how to complete the waiver form or about the special waiver process, please contact the DLL Vice President.
Forward completed waivers to the DLL Vice President. Each waiver must be approved by the league President and by a Little League District 16 representative.
