Frequently Asked Questions - Managers & Umpires

How do I sign-up to be a Team Manager or Assistant Coach, and what qualifications do I need?

You can sign-up as a Team Manager applicant on the DLL website by completing the Team Manager Application via the Register Online link. You can sign-up as an Assistant Coach applicant on the DLL website by completing the Assistant Coach Application via the Register Online link.

First time DLL Team Manager and Assistant Coach applicants should list any past playing and coaching experience in youth sports, not limited to baseball. DLL will be holding coaching clinics and meetings prior to a Spring season for those that do not have any coaching experience or to those that want to continue learning better coaching techniques. Prior to starting a Fall season, DLL will conduct a pre-season manager's meeting to review rules, procedures and expectations. Applicants will be selected based on the above qualifications by DLL Board Members.

Note that all Team Manager and Assistant Coach applicants will need to submit their date of birth and social security number to facilitate completion of a background check mandated by Little League Baseball.

I signed up as a Team Manager Applicant for the upcoming season. How many coaches/players can I select if I'm chosen as a Team Manager?

Selected managers in the Funball, T-Ball, Instructional Rookie and Rookie divisions can select ONE assistant coach whose player will automatically be assigned to the same team. Selected managers in the Single A, AA, AAA division can pre-select ONE assistant coach.

Once the selected assistant coach has consented to be assigned to that manager's team, the player(s) of the assistant coach will automatically be assigned to the same team as the player of the manager.

Beyond the selection of one assistant coach, no other player/coach requests will be considered or honored. Single A, AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors teams are rebuilt each Spring season via a draft. During a DLL Fall season, players are assigned to divisions and teams by DLL Player Agents.

How do I sign-up to be a DLL umpire, and what qualifications do I need?

You can sign-up as an umpire applicant on the DLL website. DLL will be conducting free, mandatory umpiring certification clinics prior to the season for new and experienced umpires with less than three years of experience.
