Wednesday, July 13th: DLL National Defeats CLLL National with its 6th Consecutive Shutout; DLL National Advances to Virginia State Tournament!!!
The Dulles Little League capped off an incredible District 16 tournament by
winning its 6th consecutive shutout 8-0 over the Central Loudoun National
All-stars. The team continued its outstanding fundamental baseball by
displaying outstanding defense, pitching, baserunning and timely hitting.
During the championship game, Jake Kuzbel pitched all 6 innings in only 51 pitches as he faced one more than the minimum batters (19). In the 15
innings piched in the tournament, Jake walked only 1 batter while striking
out 18. The DLL pitching staff's control was apparent during the entire
tournament as DLL pitching walked only 7 batters in 6 games!
The championship also displayed a solid defensive effort by Dulles.
Excellent plays were turned in by Matthew Hough, Lucas Martinez, Cam Miller,
Cam Serigne, Matt Malacane, Chris Dec, and Logan Shain. During the 6-game
tournament, DLL only made 3 errors that allowed batters to reach base
without the benefit of a hit.
Timely hitting in the championship game was displayed via RBI base hits by
Matthew Hough, Zach Newell, Matt Malacane. If it weren't for an incredible
defensive effort made by Central Loudoun -- who caught 4 bullets off the
bats of DLL hitters -- the score would have been greater. Sound fundamental
baseball was also on display as Trace McSorley, Dorian Jenkins, Chris Dec,
Zach Newell all reached base via bunt hits and Logan Shain drove in a run
with an excellent bunt.
The DLL National All-stars were a TEAM in the truest sense of the word.
Each player contributed on multiple occasions to lead a team to 6
consecutive victories without being scored upon.
The team now goes on to Charlottesville to begin its play in the Virginia State tournament on July 22nd.
Tuesday, July 12th: DLL National Defeats DLL American 11-0

Saturday, July 9th: DLL National Win with 4th Consecutive Shutout!
The 9/10 DLL National League all-stars won their 4th consecutive shutout defeating the Central Loudoun American all-stars 3-0. Ty Percherke pitched all 6 innings and ran his consecutive shutout inning streak to 10 innings. DLL's defense was again outstanding as 16 of the 18 outs were made by the defense.
The first run was scored in the first inning as Jake Kuzbel led off the game with a booming double. One out later, Matt Malacane drove Jake home with a sharp single to right. The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th thanks to several outstanding defensive plays. First, Dorian Jenkins made a spectacular catch of a foul fly ball down the left field line. The critical sequence however, occured in the top of the fifth with the game on the line. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Cam Miller made the play of the game to cut off the tying run at third base. After fielding a bunt, Cam faked a throw to first, turned and fired a strike to the shortstop Jake Kuzbel to catch the runner off third base. The CLL kids kept coming and with runners on first and second and 2 outs, an infield single squirted into the outfield behind second base. Jake Kuzbel hustled after the ball and made a one hop throw that Matt Malacane expertly scooped out of the dirt and placed the tag on the runner who tried to score from second.
DLL scored 2 additional runs in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a well place bunt by Zach Newell and some outstanding hustle on the base paths.
Ty Percherke finished the job by striking out the last 2 hitters of the game.
DLL National remains undefeated in pool play and now must play the DLL American all-stars Tuesday night at Crittenden.

Sean Harding got things started in the fourth with a single, and Dulles added another run when Bowen scored. After CLL scored four runs in the top of the fifth to pull within one, Dulles opened the lead back up in the bottom of the inning when Smith and Garrett Thomas led off with back to back singles and both later scored.
Graham had the mound for Dulles for the complete game and struck out nine, while allowing only four walks. Keeping his cool in the top of the sixth, he protected his three run lead by recording all three outs of the inning: a strike out, a caught pop-fly, and for the final out of the game, Graham struck out the CLL clean-up hitter, who came to the plate with bases loaded representing the go-ahead run. Great game Mac!
Tuesday, July 5th: DLL National 11s Rally to Win
DLL National 11s were down 5-2 after 2 innings, but finished strong to beat the CLL American All Stars 17-6. The defense was led by Scott Doescher at 2nd base, who made several key plays to stop CLL American rallies. Ryan Rentfro pitched 4 solid innings and Cam Bowen came in strong in relief. The offensive comeback was sparked when Thomas Lechler hit his first ever home run over the left center field fence in the top of the third. Going into the 4th down 5-3, the DLL Nationals unleashed a scoring explosion when Lechler doubled with bases loaded to drive in two runs and tie the game. Rentfro then put Dulles up for good with a three run bomb. The whole line up contributed to the 17 runs, highlighted by Andrew Seigel with three hits and two runs scored, and Tyler Quackenbush who scored twice on two hits.
The next game will be played on Wednesday night at Good Times Park.
Monday, July 4th: DLL National 11s Fall to Upper Loudoun American team
DLL National took one on the chin on Monday. A great game played by both teams with ULL American coming out on top by the score of 5-4. Thomaas Lechler and Mac Graham pitched great, but timely hitting in the 6th inning was the difference.
Nick Melocik played a brilliant outfield with a great throw to third to stop a rally and Cason Smith looked like Brooks Robinson (or Melvin Mora) with some nice plays at third.
DLL National plays CLL Tuesday night at 6pm.
Saturday, July 2nd: DLL National 11s Beat Upper Loudoun NL 12-1
Dulles National 11 year olds were dominating in their first victory in tournament play 12-1. The team was led by Cam Bowen who pitched only 45 pitches in 4 innings to get the victory. The team played very solid defense and was led on the offensive side by Mac Graham who had a triple, double and single. The next game will be Monday, July 4th at 9am.

Saturday, July 9th: DLLA 3, CLLN 0
John Karasinski did a masterful job of pitching for 4 2/3 innings and Tyler Mocabee came in to get the save against a very good Central Loudoun squad. The top two hitters in the lineup (JP Woodward and Patrick Dawson) did a great job of getting on base (5 of 6) and Ty Lighton and Sid Harvey were able to pick them up. But defense and pitching won this for Dulles. A 2-6-2 double play turned in by Stephen Putnick and Ty Lighton on a double steal in the 2nd inning kept the game scoreless. A diving catch by Patrick Dawson with 2 runners on to end the 5th inning kept the lead. And a "HEADS UP" play by JP Woodward with one out in the 6th on a pick off all but ended the game. Tyler Mocabee struck out the last hitter to end the game.
Friday, July 8th: DLLA 4, CLLA 0
Stephen Putnick threw a complete game 3-hit shutout to carry Dulles to victory. Patrick Dawson (3 hits and 2 runs scored) and Sid Harvey (2 for 2, BB, 2-run home run) led the hitting attack.
Wednesday, July 6th: DLLA 8, ULLA 3
Dulles came back against a very good hitting Upper Loudoun American team to scratch out an 8-3 win. Down 2-0, and then 3-2, Dulles wouldn't quit. It was a true team effort at the plate as several players contributed significantly. John Karasinski and Sid Harvey each had two hits apiece and scored 2 runs each, while Zach Rawson had a clutch 2-out, 2-run double, and Patrick Young started a rally with a beautiful drag bunt. Matt Murphy, Stephen Putnick, Ty Lighton and JP Woodward also contributed towards the hit attack.
On the pitching side, Tyler Mocabee pitched the final four innings retiring 12 of the last 13 batters, and striking out 8 to get the win.

Monday, July 11th: Ryan Johnston Pitches No-Hitter! DLLN 1, CLLLA 0
Ryan Johnston realized every pitchers dream last night by pitching a no-hitter to defeat Central Loudon American, 1-0 at Freedom Park. In addition, Ryan drove in the only run of the game and had five assists and one putout defensively. It took Ryan only 50 pitches, 36 strikes, to complete his dream game. Ryan did not walk a batter and only a fifth inning error kept it from being a perfect game. Ryan received terrific defensive support, most notably from Josh Kuzbel, Michael Kaladi, Nick Montgomery, Danny Bour, Taylor Clarke, and his battery mate, Jeff Hershey. Danny Bour went 2-2 to support the effort offensively. Shea Bargiel, Jeff Hershey, Taylor Clarke and Johnston contributed one hit apiece.

Tournament Format Rules
DLL will field six All-star teams to participate in
Little League-sponsored tournaments. The DLL American League and National
League will each field a team for the Majors (11/12) Tournament,
the 11 Tournament and the 9/10 Tournament.
This is DLL's inaugural season in Little League District 16. Our DLL teams will be competing in District 16 along with teams from Central
Loudoun Little League and Upper
Loudoun Little League. The tournament is a round-robin format with the winner being crowned the District 16 champion. The round-robin games will be followed by an if-necessary playoff if there is more than 1 team with less than 2 losses.
The 11 and 9/10 tournaments end with the state championship.
The Majors tournament continues with the state champion representing
Virginia in the Southern Region Championship, held in St. Petersburg,
FL. The Southern Region champion will move to the Little League World
Series, held in August in Williamsport, PA.

Tournament Rules
All tournaments will be played using the Little League
Tournament Rules, as contained in the 2005 green book. There are considerable
differences between tournament rules and regular-season rules. Managers,
Coaches, Umpires, and Parents are advised to familiarize themselves
with the differences.
Some of the main rule differences:
There is no continuous batter order
-
Minimum play is one at-bat AND play in the field
for three consecutive defensive outs
-
If a team fails to meet minimum play for each
player, they forfeit
-
Players may enter the game unlimited times; once
they appear at a certain spot in the batting order they must appear
at that same spot anytime they are in the game.
-
Once per inning, a player who is not currently
in the line-up may be used as a Special Pinch Runner, which does
not count as a substitution
-
10 run rule is used
-
Pitching resting requirements are very different
