Congratulations to the Dulles American Majors All-Star
team, who won the Disctrict 3 tournamant, and then went on to finish
third in the Virigina State tournament.
Teams from Dulles Little League won all three All-Star
tournaments in which Dulles entered. As it happened, all three tournaments
were won by a Dulles American team. The
Majors and 9/10 winners advanced for further play in their tournaments.
Majors Tournament (11/12)
Dulles American has won the Area 1
Championship with a perfect 5-0 record in pool play. A play-off round
was not necessary since every other team had at least two losses.
Dulles National finished second. This was a great
showing by DLL teams.
9/10 Tournament
The Dulles American 9-10 All-Star Team
won the opening tournament and are 2003 Area 1 Champions
in District 3. Well done team! Dulles National were the runners-up,
so DLL made a fantastic showing in the tournament.
In fact the championship came down to a one-game playoff between the
American and National squads on July 6, and American pulled off a
3-2 victory.
Dulles American has continued in the tournament, playing
the Area 2 champion in a best-of-three tournament. After a Dulles
American win in Purcellville, the Area 2 squad evened the series in
Front Royal, setting up a decisive third game. Unfortunately Dulles
came up a little short in the final game. Congratulations
on a fine post-season to the Dulles American team.
11 Tournament
Congratulations to the Dulles American 11 All-Star
Team who went undefeated en route to winning the championship
of the 11 Invitational Tournament, hosted by Dulles Little League.
They played against teams from Upper Loudoun, Central Loudoun, and
Front Royal, as well as against our own Dulles National team.

News
(June 21) Jim Policaro (NL) and Glenn
Dawson (AL) are the managers for the 11-year-old Tournament Teams.
DLL will be hosting the tournament involving area All-Star teams of
playing-age 11-year-old players.
(June 17) The schedules for the Area
1 tournaments for the 11/12 and 9/10 All-Stars are now available to
download:
(June 17) Umpires: DLL will
need to supply umpires for tournament games not involving DLL teams.
There is a meeting for tournament umpires this Saturday, June 21.
Contact UIC Mickey Cmeyla
for details.
(June 17) The 2003 All-Star 11/12 and
9/10 teams have been selected and notifications should have been made.
The team for the 11 All-Star tournament has not yet been selected.
Format
DLL will field four All-star teams to participate in
Little League-sponsored tournaments. The DLL American League and National
League will each field a team for the 11/12 International Tournament
and the 9/10 Tournament.
For both the 11/12 and the 9/10 tournaments, the DLL
teams will first compete in the District 3 Area 1 tournament against
teams from Central Loudoun
Little League and Upper
Loudoun Little League. The Area 1 tournaments use a round-robin
format with each team guaranteed to play five games. For a team to
be eliminated from winning the tournament, it must lose two games.
To handle cases where either no team has less than two losses or more
than one team has less than two losses at the end of round-robin play,
there is a provision for playoff games following the round-robin portion.
For instance, if team A finishes the round-robin with a record of
5-0, and team B finishes with 4-1, team B is not yet eliminated because
it only has one loss. A playoff game would be held between A and B.
If A wins, B now has two losses and A is the champion. If B wins the
play-off game, a second playoff game would be held, with the winner
advancing.
One team from the Area 1 tournaments will emerge to
face the winner of Area 2 for the Northern Division championship of
District 3. The Northern Division winners will play the Southern Division
winners for the District 3 Championship. The District winners will
play for the Sectional crown, and the sectional winners will meet
for the Virginia State Championship.
The 9/10 tournament ends with the state championship.
The 11/12 tournament continues with the state champion representing
Virgina in the Southern Region Championship, held in St. Petersburg,
FL. The Southern Region champion will move to the Little League World
Series, held in August in Williamsport, PA.
DLL will also field two teams to participate in an 11-year-old
All-Star tournament. These teams will be an All-Star team of players
playing age 11. Players who were not selected to their 11/12 team
are eligible to be selected for the 11-year-old team. These teams
will play in a tournament involving area leagues.
