More Info about the Majors Redraft
for the 2006 Spring Season
January 13, 2006 5:29 PM
After listening to inputs from Manager Applicants for the Majors division on 1/6/06, the DLL Board of Directors voted to conduct complete redraft of all Majors players for the 2006 Spring season. This web page provides some additional insight into why the DLL Board believes this is in the best interest of the league, and what this means for the 2006 Spring season.
Primary reasons for conducting a complete redraft of all Majors players:
-
For every team in the Majors division to have a chance to be competitive every season
-
Little League Headquarters is on course to pass a nationwide redraft policy
-
Lower divisions in DLL already redraft every year
What this means for the 2006 Spring season:
This Spring season, Dulles Little League will implement a redraft of all returning Majors players. There has been much work completed to ensure that the redraft process goes smoothly. The draft proposal has been passed by both the District 16 administration and the Little League Southern Region Charter Committee. Any rumors as to how the redraft is to be done are just that – rumors. The Board of Directors will work closely with the Major League Managers to ensure a fair and equitable process.
All Major Division players that participated in the Spring 2005 season are guaranteed to be drafted. Returning Majors players are no longer automatically assigned to the teams they played for in the Spring 2005 season. All returning players will have their names entered into a common pool for a preliminary draft. These players will have the opportunity to be drafted by any one of the Majors managers in either the American League or the National League.
Any child that is playing age 11 or playing age 12 or that played in the Spring 2005 AAA or are new to the DLL service area will still have an opportunity to be drafted in to the Majors Division – just as in previous years. The exact number of teams in the Majors division for the 2006 Spring season (likely 10 or 12) has not yet been determined.
The DLL Board of Directors appreciates your patience and cooperation as we strive to ensure an equitable division of players among the teams in the Majors division. If you have further questions about the Majors redraft, you can email the DLL Board, or speak with a Board member at the tryout sessions scheduled for Sat, January 21. Thank you for your support.
